Who we are
This website is run by [registered business name] (“Dodo Ride”, “we”), BRN [BRN], [registered address — Chemin Bazaar, Grand Baie 30502, Mauritius?]. We decide how your personal data is used, under the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017 and, for visitors from the European Economic Area or the UK, the GDPR.
Questions about your data: contact@dodoride.mu.
What we collect
We only collect what we need to handle your rental. We never sell it.
When you send a booking request
Your name, email address, phone number, the scooters you chose, your pickup and return dates and times, and your message if you write one, so we can check availability and confirm your booking.
When you contact us
If you write or call us by WhatsApp, phone or email, we receive what you tell us and your number or address, so we can answer you.
When you collect your scooter
[what is checked or copied at pickup, e.g. driving licence, International Driving Permit, passport, hotel name, photos of the scooter], so we can check that you may ride the scooter and record its condition.
When you browse the site
- Only if you accept cookies: Google Analytics and Google Ads record how you use the site (pages viewed, how you arrived, device and approximate location), so we can see what works and measure our ads. See Cookies.
- Map: the map on our About page comes from Google Maps. It loads only when you click “Show map” or if you accepted cookies; Google then receives your IP address.
- Server logs: like any website, our server records requests (IP address, browser, page and time) to keep the site secure and working.
Your booking basket, your light or dark theme and your cookie choice are kept only in your own browser. They are never sent to us.
Why we use it
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Handle your booking request, confirm it and hand over your scooter | Taking steps towards, and performing, our rental contract with you |
| Answer your questions | Our legitimate interest in helping customers (or the contract, for a booking) |
| Check that you may legally ride the scooter (age, licence) | Contract and legal obligation |
| Accounting and tax records | Legal obligation |
| Protect our scooters, prevent fraud, handle accidents, fines or disputes | Legitimate interest; legal obligation where the law requires it |
| Website statistics and measuring our ads | Your consent in the cookie banner, which you can withdraw at any time |
We don't make automated decisions about you.
Who receives it
We share your data only with:
- Google: our email (booking requests reach us by Gmail), Google Analytics and Google Ads (only with your consent), and Google Maps.
- WhatsApp (Meta), if you contact us there.
- Our website host, [hosting company], which runs our server.
- Transfer drivers: if you ask us to arrange a bike transfer or a taxi, the driver receives [your name, phone number and pickup place?].
- Insurers, police or other authorities, only when needed after an accident, theft or traffic offence, or when the law requires it. [confirm]
Cookies
The site works without cookies. Only if you click Accept in the cookie banner, Google sets these:
| Cookie | From | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Tells visits apart with an anonymous ID | 2 years |
_ga_<ID> | Google Analytics | Keeps track of your current visit | 2 years |
_gcl_au | Google Ads | Links an ad click to a booking request | 90 days |
If you click Reject, or haven't chosen yet, no cookies are set. Google then only receives anonymous signals without cookies (Google Consent Mode), which it uses to estimate visits and ad results. You can change your choice at any time: .
How long we keep it
We keep your data only as long as we need it:
- Booking requests, messages and pickup records: until your rental and anything that follows from it is settled (questions, damage, traffic fines or a dispute), then we delete them.
- Records the law requires, such as invoices and payments: for the period Mauritius tax and accounting law requires [number of years, from the accountant], then they are deleted.
- Copies of documents, if we take any: [e.g. deleted once the scooter is returned without issues].
- Google Analytics data: [2 or 14] months.
- Server logs: [retention from the hosting company].
Data outside Mauritius
Google and WhatsApp process data outside Mauritius, mainly in the EU and the USA. They protect it with recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data,
- correct it,
- delete it, unless the law requires us to keep it,
- stop or limit using it, or object to how we use it,

Children
Our scooters are rented to adults (21 and over). We don't knowingly collect data about children.
